Loving the church: {Day 12} Follow the Spirit
Instead of follow the yellow brick road...follow the Spirit!
Today's post of necessity will be short and sweet.
All believers, as you hopefully know, have been given the Holy Spirit. There is no waiting period on receiving it; once you believe on Jesus, you are automatically in-dwelled by the Spirit. In the book of Acts, Peter instructs the crowds, who are wondering what they should do to be saved, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)
Are you aware on a daily basis of the Holy Spirit's work in your life? No? You need to know that the Holy Spirit is doing more than you may give him credit for. Any inkling you have toward the Lord, any leaning of your heart to think of your neighbor or anyone aside from yourself is an act of God's grace and the Holy Spirit in your life!
Has an idea for helping or reaching out to someone ever crossed your mind, but before you act on it, you second guess yourself and say, "No, that is just too much. What if she thinks I'm weird? What if it's awkward? No, I'm not going to do that." It's certainly happened to me. I let my fear of what others may think stop me from doing things that the Lord may be leading me to do!
Friends, let's not quench the Spirit! We can't even hope to WANT to reach out to others without the grace of the Lord. When we see him working in us, to help us love others, we must respond with gratitude and with obedience. Do have the urge to tell a friend how much she is love, how precious she is to the Lord? Do it! Does the idea cross your mind to pray for someone there on the spot (but you feel kind of weird about it)? Do it! The Holy Spirit is also called the Helper, Counselor, and Advocate. This third person of the Trinity stand ready to help, more willing than we can imagine.
We love the church as we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
